Hungarian ministry receives 125 proposals outlining future of public media

The Ministry for Social Affairs and Culture concluded a public consultation on the future of Hungary's public media, receiving 125 written submissions totaling about 500 pages.

At the end of September, the Ministry for Social Affairs and Culture wrapped up a professional dialogue on the direction of Hungary's public media. Over a month-long period, it collected 125 written proposals amounting to roughly 500 pages. The ministry plans to use these suggestions when preparing the chief executive tender for Magyar Rádió és Televízió Nonprofit Zrt., allowing candidates to address the highlighted strategic issues.

Contributors called for strengthening public trust, guaranteeing editorial independence, ensuring cost-effective and transparent management, and producing high-quality, modern content. They also advocated for reliable crisis reporting, modernised archives, and a neutral forum for societal dialogue. The Independent Public Media Board may incorporate the material into its tender preparation.
