Hungarian parliament resumes session as prime minister attacks prosecution and campaign financing

The Hungarian National Assembly resumed its regular session on Monday, with Magyar Peter formally starting the meeting. In his address, the prime minister criticized the prosecution, saying it had failed to restore public confidence and that senior prosecutors had long obstructed investigations into crimes. He asserted that the chief prosecutor’s office had politically compelled the parliament to call Seszták Miklós and Hankó Balázs before the chamber, describing the action as a self-revelation.

Labeling the ensuing legal process a "desperate step," he outlined alleged misconduct within the NKA, listing recipients of misappropriated funds. The prime minister further accused the former administration of siphoning money meant for genuine culture and people to fund the Fidesz-KDNP election campaign, and suggested that opposition lawmakers fiercely defend Hankó Balázs because they fear a forthcoming trial.
