Hungarian President Baka András Calls for UN Reform and Fair Treatment at GA

At the high-level session of the UN General Assembly, President Baka András described a growing crisis of confidence in the United Nations, accusing it of inaction whenever great powers and their allies violate international norms. He asserted that no nation can place itself above the charter and that member states must be judged by the same standards, insisting that the UN must become more operational and equitable. While rejecting any notion of abandoning the UN, he said its credibility must be earned through consistent behavior.

Baka referenced Hungary's recent electoral shift, pledging that the country will act as a reliable EU member, a committed NATO ally, and an active participant in the UN. He condemned Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine as a breach of the UN Charter and international law, and called for respect for humanitarian law in the Gaza conflict, affirming every state's right to self-defence.
