Hungary asks for return of two horses gifted to King Charles III

Hungary has formally requested that the two Lipizzaner horses presented to King Charles III be sent back to the state stud farm in Szilvásvárad.

In a move that has sparked diplomatic unease, Hungary's agricultural ministry wrote to the British royal household asking for the two Lipizzaner horses, Nelson and Iveco, to be returned to the state stud farm in Szilvásvárad. The horses were originally presented to King Charles III as a gift for his 2023 coronation, a gesture announced by former defence minister Szalay-Bobrovniczky Kristóf. The British palace was surprised by the request, and some Hungarian observers suspect political motives behind the demand. The Hungarian embassy in London declined to explain the reason for the recall but said the issue has been resolved, while confirming that the horses will stay at the Royal Stables in Windsor for the time being.
