Hungary merges Terrorism Prevention Center and Parliamentary Guard into police structure
A decree from the interior ministry integrates the Terrorism Prevention Center and the Parliamentary Guard into the police hierarchy.
The interior ministry issued a regulation that merges the formerly autonomous Terrorism Prevention Center and the Parliamentary Guard into the police structure. The change creates three functional units within the police: the Terrorism Prevention Center, responsible for operational missions and personal security; the National Investigation Office, tasked with investigations and counter-terrorism work; and the Ready-Reserve Police, which will take over object protection, fire-service tasks, event security and routine deployments.
The Parliamentary Guard ceases to exist as a separate body, its object-security role transferring to the Ready-Reserve Police while its personnel keep their unique uniforms and rank insignia. Coordination of personal protection remains with the Terrorism Prevention Center in cooperation with other units. Additionally, former head Hajdu János was dismissed from his position earlier this year following a ministerial decision.
