Hunter Biden unveils $LAPTOP meme coin, promising refunds for Trump token losers
Hunter Biden is launching a $LAPTOP meme cryptocurrency on Coinbase’s Base network, allocating a share to investors who lost money on the $TRUMP token.
Hunter Biden is preparing to introduce a new meme cryptocurrency called $LAPTOP on the Base blockchain operated by Coinbase, with a total issuance of 1 billion tokens. About one-third of the supply will go to Biden and his co-founders, who must wait six months before any sales, and the full allocation will vest over two years. A notable feature is a 20% reserve for traders who suffered losses on the $TRUMP token, which reportedly cost nearly 1 million retail investors between $3.2 billion and $4.5 billion.
The project also earmarks tokens for Biden’s Substack audience, a list managed by video journalist Andrew Callaghan, and for charitable and liquidity purposes. Up to 30% of the supply may be permanently burned if events such as a Democrat winning the 2028 White House or Bitcoin hitting a new high occur; otherwise, those tokens will be donated. The launch is slated for Wednesday, and the initiative follows Biden’s recent public endorsement of decentralized digital currencies.
Why it matters
The coin ties a high-profile political figure to a controversial crypto venture and promises restitution to investors hurt by a rival meme token.
