Husinec Reservoir Hits Record Low, Only Inflow Keeps It Running
The Husinec reservoir has dropped to its lowest operational level, with water outflow now matching only the amount that flows in.
By Wednesday noon, anglers discovered the Husinec reservoir virtually empty, prompting them to leave the banks. Measurements show the water surface has dropped about seven metres, leaving the storage basin, which can hold more than two million cubic metres, almost dry. Outflow, previously around 400 litres per second, has been reduced to roughly half that amount, now only matching the inflow.
Jiří Baloun, director of the state water management enterprise Povodí Vltavy, noted that a permanent retention zone still holds some water, a situation he has not seen in his career. In response, the South Bohemian regional crisis team, led by Governor Martin Kuba, declared a regional drought and called for water-saving measures. Adjacent reservoirs are also adjusting releases, but authorities assure that drinking-water supplies remain secure.
Why it matters
The severe drop in reservoir levels threatens water supply and highlights escalating drought conditions in South Bohemia.
