Hyosung and Quanta launch U.S. joint venture to produce high-voltage breakers

Hyosung Heavy Industries is extending its U.S. manufacturing base through a new joint venture with Quanta Services to build high-voltage circuit breakers in Pennsylvania. The agreement, signed by Hyosung HICO and a Quanta subsidiary, created Hyosung Hico Breaker, which will begin production of gas circuit breakers from 72.5 kV up to 800 kV as early as October at Quanta's Canonsburg plant. The collaboration combines Hyosung's five-decade experience in breakers with Quanta's extensive engineering and construction network serving utilities and data-center operators.

Chairman Cho Hyun-joon highlighted the partnership's role in strengthening Hyosung's position as a total solutions provider in the U.S. power market. The venture makes Hyosung the first Korean maker to produce both transformers and high-voltage breakers on U.S. soil, complementing its Memphis ultra-high-voltage transformer plant and a recent $540 million supply contract with a major U.S. grid operator.
