Hyosung Heavy Industries opens new ultra-high-voltage circuit breaker plant in Changwon
Hyosung Heavy Industries inaugurated an 18,996-square-meter facility in Changwon to double production of 420 kV and higher circuit breakers for export.
Hyosung Heavy Industries completed a new ultra-high-voltage circuit breaker plant in Changwon, South Gyeongsang Province, on Friday, expanding its capacity for breakers rated 420 kV and above. The 18,996-square-meter site, opened in the presence of Vice Chairman Lee Sang-woon, Rep. Heo Seong-moo, Rep. Kim Jong-yang and Korea Electrotechnology Research Institute President Kang Sang-hee, will manufacture 420 kV, 550 kV and 800 kV export models and in-house insulation parts.
By integrating component production, assembly, testing and shipping, the facility doubles output for high-voltage breakers. Chairman Cho Hyun-joon highlighted the need for early supply-chain investment as AI data-center growth strains power grids worldwide. Hyosung aims to broaden its export reach through additional plants in India and the United States, a $300 million expansion of its Memphis transformer plant, and a joint venture with U.S. firm Quanta, while also strengthening R&D ties in the Netherlands.
Why it matters
The plant boosts global supply of high-voltage breakers needed for expanding data-center and grid infrastructure.
