Høyre calls for Vedum's resignation to enable tax cuts

In a sharp escalation of the dispute over fuel taxes and tax policy, Høyre MP Anna Molberg declared that a necessary tax agreement cannot be reached while Trygve Slagsvold Vedum remains leader of the Centre Party. Molberg linked one outlet tax burden to Vedum's period as finance minister and suggested that a different Centre Party leader might support permanent tax reductions. Centre Party finance spokesperson Bjørn Arild Gram dismissed Høyre's stance, calling the opposition's tax proposal unrealistic amid soaring prices and global instability, and emphasized the urgency of immediate fuel-tax cuts for businesses and drivers.
Vedum responded by criticizing Høyre leader Ine Eriksen Søreide for failing to follow through on a promise made in August to lower fuel taxes if prices rose, noting that diesel prices have now exceeded 31 kroner in parts of southern Norway. The debate highlights a broader clash between Høyre's push for lasting tax relief and the Centre Party's focus on short-term fuel-tax reductions.
