Høyre circulates internal memo urging tax cuts over extending fuel tax relief

On the same day the BLÅTT district network was announced, Høyre’s top officials emailed an internal briefing called “Interninfo: Drivstoffavgifter” to senior party structures. The paper lists talking points for candidates, emphasizing that the temporary fuel-tax reduction introduced in March was a stop-gap and that lasting solutions lie in broad tax cuts, such as a 36-billion-kroner reduction in income and pension taxes and the removal of the wealth tax.

It also frames the governing coalition’s fuel-tax policy as inconsistent and highlights the need for stable business conditions. The memo includes a Q&A for local politicians, citing recent oil-price volatility and the International Energy Agency’s warnings. Party leader Ine Eriksen Søreide offered to visit Stryn to discuss the stance, while deputy mayor Sonja Øvre-Flo called the proposed messaging a “catastrophe” for her municipality. The briefing will guide Høyre’s trial election campaign later this weekend.
