Hyundai E&C to Complete Korea's First AI-Focused Data Center in Record Time

Hyundai Engineering & Construction signed the main contract with AI Factory Pohang PFV and began installing precast concrete components for Korea's first AI-only data center in Pohang's Gwangmyeong general industrial complex. By employing an all-precast structure and parallel design, permitting and site-preparation, the builder expects to finish the project in 16.5 months, far faster than the usual year-long timeline. The 40-megawatt plant will be powered by Nvidia GPUs and feature liquid cooling, a first for Korean data centers, enabling roughly ten times the power density of standard cloud facilities.

It aims for a power usage effectiveness rating of 1.25 and will support Nvidia's upcoming "Vera Rubin" AI chips. Neo AI Cloud, the project developer, plans to provide GPU-as-a-service and AI platform services when the center becomes operational in the latter half of 2027. Hyundai E&C, which has built 19 data centers since 2004, highlights this as its most advanced commercial data-center project to date.
