Hyundai Motor poised to exceed 10 million cumulative vehicle sales in India this year

Hyundai Motor is on track to surpass 10 million total vehicle sales in India by year-end, according to industry data.

Industry figures show Hyundai Motor's cumulative sales in India are set to exceed 10 million vehicles by the end of one outlet year, after reaching 9.88 million through the third quarter. The automaker entered the Indian market in 1998, launching the Santro minicar from its Chennai facility, and has since expanded its lineup to include the i10, i20, Verna, Creta, Creta EV, Exter and Alcazar models. Hyundai's yearly sales in the country passed the half-million mark in 2016 and climbed to 605,433 units in 2024, with SUVs representing roughly 70 percent of that total in the previous year.

CEO Jose Munoz announced a target to boost the SUV proportion to 80 percent by 2030. Production capacity across Hyundai's Chennai and Pune plants currently stands at 1 million vehicles annually, with plans to raise it above 1.1 million by 2030.

Why it matters

Crossing 10 million sales highlights Hyundai's strong foothold and growth potential in India's fast-expanding auto market.
