IAEA inspectors found a nuclear reactor under construction in Deir el-Zour, along with related facilities, that Syria did not report during Bashar Assad’s rule.
In August, IAEA teams inspected several Syrian sites and uncovered a reactor being built in Deir el-Zour, a fuel-fabrication plant and a fuel-storage location. The confidential UN report says the former Syrian authorities failed to declare these nuclear assets as required by the NPT Safeguards Agreement.
