IAS officer Gyanendra Kumar Gangwar taken into custody over KPSC exam scandal

The Criminal Investigation Department has arrested IAS officer Gyanendra Kumar Gangwar and sent him to a one-day judicial custody on suspicion of involvement in irregularities surrounding the Karnataka Public Service Commission's veterinary officer recruitment test. Officials said Gangwar, who oversaw examinations at the KPSC between February 2024 and March 2026, was taken into custody for not cooperating with the inquiry.

He is presently the Director of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises in the Department of Industries and Commerce. The CID is examining alleged manipulation of examination records and OMR sheets, as well as the participation of other officials. The officer's recent disappearance had drawn public attention, with Karnataka Home Minister Priyank Kharge explaining that Gangwar flew to his hometown in Uttar Pradesh due to a family health issue. The Enforcement Directorate has also conducted searches at multiple locations linked to the KPSC exam case.
