ICE broadens 287(g) collaborations in Tennessee, leading to dozens of criminal alien arrests
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has expanded its 287(g) partnerships with Tennessee law-enforcement agencies, resulting in the arrest of over 1,300 illegal foreign nationals.
ICE is deepening its 287(g) collaborations across Tennessee, where law-enforcement agencies have submitted 136 applications for the program, the bulk of which are for the WSO and Jail Enforcement models, while roughly one-third target the Task Force model; 55 applications remain pending. Under these agreements, local officers can identify removable aliens with criminal histories, process ICE detainer requests, and execute administrative warrants.
Since Jan. 20, 2025, Tennessee partners have arrested more than 1,300 illegal foreign nationals and encountered over 540 in custody. Notable cases include a Honduran national arrested near the Alabama border for two prior sexual-battery felonies, a previously deported Mexican national convicted of sexual battery, and a Honduran wanted for a 2016 shooting massacre. ICE officials say the expansion demonstrates a commitment to removing dangerous criminal aliens and enhancing public safety. The state legislature has mandated that all sheriffs’ offices join a 287(g) agreement by Jan. 1, 2027.
