ICE detains Bahamian permanent resident accused of illegal 2020 vote and violent crimes
ICE arrested Anthony Tyrone Higgs, a Bahamian national and longtime lawful permanent resident, for allegedly voting illegally in the 2020 election and for a series of violent offenses.
On Sept. 3, ICE and Homeland Security Investigations agents captured Anthony Tyrone Higgs, a Bahamian citizen who entered the United States as a lawful permanent resident in October 1976. Authorities allege he illegally voted in the 2020 presidential election, a claim. Higgs also faces convictions for two counts of grand larceny, armed robbery with a deadly weapon, multiple weapon-possession offenses, assault on a police officer, criminal domestic violence and resisting arrest.
He is being held by ICE's Enforcement and Removal Operations while DHS moves to revoke his residency and deport him. The case follows a broader DHS push, including letters to state election officials and new ICE directives, to crack down on non-citizen voting. Recent arrests of other non-citizens for similar offenses underscore the agency's heightened focus on election security.
