IDF airstrike kills Hamas commander who oversaw nine Israeli hostages

On Tuesday, the Israeli Defense Forces reported that a targeted airstrike in northern Gaza killed Muhammad Hamad Muhammad Gabain, a commander within Hamas' military wing. Gabain had overseen the captivity of nine Israeli civilians—Ziv Berman, Gali Berman, Eitan Mor, Liri Albag, Agam Berger, Matan Angrest, Omri Miran, Keith Siegel and Alon Ohel—throughout the conflict. Israeli officials said the strike was executed with precise weapons and aerial monitoring to minimize harm to non-combatants.

They added that Gabain had recently intensified assaults on Israeli troops and civilians, violating the ceasefire agreement. The Southern Command remains deployed in the area to address any remaining threats. The IDF emphasized that eliminating Gabain removes a significant operational leader of Hamas.
