IDF conducts multi-domain drill in Eilat to rehearse Oct. 7-style attacks
The Israel Defense Forces’ 80th “Edom” Division carried out a large-scale exercise in Eilat, simulating a surprise terrorist infiltration by air, sea and land.
Last week the Israel Defense Forces’ 80th “Edom” Division staged an extensive training operation around Eilat and nearby communities, recreating a coordinated terrorist infiltration from air, sea and land and ensuing mass-casualty incidents. The exercise brought together IDF units, the Israel Police, Magen David Adom medical service and Israel Fire and Rescue Services to practice joint response to complex attacks. Lt. Col. Aleph, deputy commander of the Paran Brigade and head of the drill, explained that the scenario draws on the Oct. 7, 2023 Hamas assault and is part of routine readiness, not a reaction to any immediate threat.
The drill highlighted small tactical shortcomings, which the army is now working to fix, and underscored the challenge of defending Israel’s distant southern border. Forces from the Paran Brigade (Egyptian border) and Yoav Brigade (Jordanian border) practiced rapid deployment and coordination across the region.
Why it matters
The exercise tests Israel’s ability to respond to coordinated terrorist attacks and improves preparedness for future threats.
