IG Metall pushes Volkswagen to honor future wage agreement through review talks

Following the supervisory board’s decision to tighten its savings strategy, IG Metall plans to use a provision in the future collective bargaining agreement to compel Volkswagen’s executives to a compliance discussion. Thorsten Gröger, the IG Metall district head for Lower Saxony, said the tariff commission unanimously approved the move, urging the company to sit down and clarify adherence to the pact. He emphasized that invoking the clause leaves the contract’s conditions and employment guarantees untouched.

The union expects the dialogue to occur by the end of September. Daniela Cavallo, head of the VW works council, described the current communication as persistently disastrous and reminded that the 2024 concessions were granted based on promised commitments. She reiterated that job security remains protected under the agreement.
