IHG to debut Noted Collection luxury hotels in Tokyo's Kabukicho and Ginza

InterContinental Hotels Group announced it will open its premium Noted Collection brand in Tokyo, with a renovated Kabukicho hotel slated for 2027 and a new Ginza property opening in 2029.

InterContinental Hotels Group PLC revealed plans to bring its newly launched Noted Collection brand to Japan, marking the first such entry in the country. The first property will be a renovation of an existing hotel in Shinjuku's Kabukicho entertainment zone, offering 207 rooms and targeting visitors to the nearby Golden Gai area, with an opening scheduled for 2027. A second hotel will be constructed in the high-end Ginza district, comprising 81 rooms, including suites designed for families, and is expected to open in 2029.

IHG, which entered the Japanese market in 1964 and currently operates 65 hotels across brands such as Six Senses, InterContinental, and Holiday Inn, cited growing demand from international tourists as the driver for the expansion. The company also plans to roll out Noted Collection properties in Britain and Saudi Arabia. Managing director of IHG Japan, Abhijay Sandilya, expressed optimism about partnering with owners to broaden the premium offering nationwide.

Why it matters

The expansion signals IHG's confidence in Japan's luxury hospitality market and its strategy to capture rising inbound tourism.
