IHH Healthcare launches ambulatory care centre in Johor to cut costs

IHH Healthcare Malaysia will convert Afiniti Wellness in Medini into an Ambulatory Care Centre for Gleneagles Hospital Johor, aiming to lower operating expenses and pass savings to patients.

IHH Healthcare Malaysia announced that Afiniti Wellness in Medini, Iskandar Puteri, will be redeveloped into a dedicated Ambulatory Care Centre for Gleneagles Hospital Johor. The centre will concentrate on selected outpatient, diagnostic and day-surgery services that can be completed within a single day, allowing the main hospital to prioritize high-acuity cases like heart bypass, brain surgery and advanced oncology. By operating only during daytime and with fewer staff, the model is expected to lower overhead costs, with savings passed on to Malaysian patients.

The initiative positions Johor as the first site, with similar ambulatory expansions slated for Kuala Lumpur within five years. The development also supports a larger 18-acre healthcare campus, including a specialist tower, retail space and a future 300-bed inpatient block, raising the hospital’s total capacity to 600 beds as the region prepares for the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone.

Why it matters

The model could make affordable, efficient care available while expanding regional medical capacity.
