IITs bar 22 firms from campus hiring for two years after broken job offers
The Indian Institutes of Technology will refuse to work with 22 companies in campus recruitment for the next two placement cycles after those firms failed to honor offers to 2026 graduates.
At a recent All IITs Placement Committee meeting in IIT-Guwahati, members voted to stop cooperating with 22 companies for the next two campus-recruitment seasons after those firms reneged on offers made to students graduating in 2026. The decision, described as “non-cooperation” rather than blacklisting, will be communicated to the firms by September 30. More than 150 offers across 23 IITs were affected; Oracle is cited as having withdrawn roughly 40 offers, and several startups are also on the list.
The committee is working to mitigate the impact on students, sharing their resumes with other recruiters and reporting that 20-30% have found jobs through cross-referrals. A complete tally of the companies and unfulfilled offers will be assembled once each IIT submits its data. This move aims to protect the credibility of the IIT placement system amid a cautious hiring environment.
