Ikea France plans up to 303 job cuts while adding 100 new roles

Ikea France announced a restructuring that could eliminate as many as 303 positions, mainly in administrative functions, and simultaneously create 100 new jobs.

Ikea France disclosed a transformation plan that may result in the loss of up to 303 jobs, focusing on its Paris-area headquarters and administrative departments including accounting and HR. In parallel, the company will introduce 100 positions aimed at bolstering essential competencies for its development. The CFDT union, the majority union at Ikea France, estimates 164 jobs will be eliminated and about a hundred employees redeployed across units, while roughly forty contracts will be amended.

Union officials expressed concern that the measure signals the start of more severe reductions and highlighted perceived inertia in adopting technologies such as artificial intelligence. Ikea confirmed that social dialogue began on Monday and will continue until March 2027, with the next staff meeting scheduled for early November. The retailer operates 38 stores, ten workshops and five warehouses in the country.

Why it matters

The restructuring affects hundreds of French workers and signals Ikea's response to intensifying market competition.
