Ikea launches UK peer-to-peer marketplace to compete with eBay and Vinted
Ikea will roll out a UK-focused online platform that lets members of its loyalty scheme buy and sell used Ikea items directly to each other.
Ikea is set to introduce a new online secondhand site for the United Kingdom, allowing participants in its Ikea Family loyalty scheme to trade pre-owned furniture directly with one another. The platform aims to provide a trusted, easy-to-use environment and will be rolled out in the coming months, with additional information to be released later. This initiative builds on earlier pilots in Spain and Norway and follows a five-year period during which Ikea has accepted used items in certain UK locations.
In Spain, the service already offers pre-filled listings, price suggestions, and a 15% gift-card bonus for sellers, plus a 5% protection fee for buyers starting next January. Ikea’s entry into the resale market reflects growing consumer interest in used goods and aligns with its pledge to become climate-positive by 2030.
Why it matters
The service expands Ikea’s sustainability push and adds competition to the fast-growing secondhand market.
