Ilhan Omar shares lakeside video set to confrontational Somali rap track

Rep. Ilhan Omar posted a short video walking by a Minnesota lake while a Somali song with threatening lyrics played in the background.

Ilhan Omar uploaded a brief video on Friday showing herself and husband Tim Mynett strolling along a Minnesota lake while a Somali rap song played. The track, titled “Nimaan Ciilayba Icaaya,” features rapper Ilkacase Qays and vocalist Hodan Abdirahman, and its English translation describes confronting and humiliating foes, asserting that no enemy dares to threaten the singer. The video’s caption highlighted the scenic walk but did not name any political target.

The release follows a October 12 search of Omar’s Washington, DC, residence by Homeland Security Investigations agents, part of a Justice Department-led criminal inquiry into possible false statements on immigration documents. Omar has previously been filmed dancing with the same performers at a May gathering and at the Somali Global Awards in June. At a rally in Sioux City, Iowa, Donald Trump referenced the investigation, urging House Speaker Mike Johnson to act and calling for Omar’s resignation. The episode adds cultural flair to an ongoing legal scrutiny of the congresswoman.

Why it matters

The video blends cultural expression with a high-profile federal probe, highlighting political tensions surrounding Omar’s legal challenges.
