Illegal immigrant seized with enough fentanyl to kill millions in Nevada truck bust
A Nevada sheriff stopped a speeding pickup belonging to illegal immigrant Francisco Joel Garcia Farias, uncovering over 700 pounds of fentanyl and methamphetamine.
Lincoln County deputies flagged a speeding pickup driven by 26-year-old illegal immigrant Francisco Joel Garcia Farias on a rural Nevada highway. A K-9 alerted, prompting a search that revealed 13 large totes packed with approximately 30 pounds of suspected fentanyl and 677 pounds of suspected methamphetamine, totaling more than 700 pounds. Prosecutors highlighted that the fentanyl alone could yield around seven million two-milligram doses, enough to kill more than twice Nevada’s residents or an entire state like Indiana.
The haul, valued at about $2 million, was seized through a joint effort by the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Homeland Security Investigations and the Homeland Security Task Force. Garcia Farias is charged with possession with intent to distribute large quantities of both drugs and faces a mandatory minimum of 10 years up to life in prison. Federal officials emphasized the seizure removed a deadly supply from the streets.
