Illinois mother accused of killing toddler sings Wizard of Oz song during police interview

In a suburban home near Chicago, Corie Walsh, 40, is facing first-degree murder charges after her 2-year-old son, Barrett Walsh, was found dead, suspended from a rafter. Neighbors were alerted when the older siblings discovered the scene and called 911; CPR attempts failed and the child was pronounced dead at the scene. An autopsy listed asphyxia due to ligature compression as the cause of death.

While being questioned, Walsh reportedly sang a verse from the Wizard of Oz song “Follow the Yellow Brick Road” and confessed that she considered the boy the “anti-Christ.” She was found in a bathtub filled with blood-stained water, had slashed her wrists and thighs, and told police she also intended to poison her husband. Prosecutors say she is obsessed with Lindsay Clancy, whose own trial for killing her children is ongoing, and they argue Walsh was experiencing a psychotic episode. A judge ordered her detained pending a preliminary hearing scheduled for Sept. 24.
