In-N-Out submits plan for dual-lane drive-thru restaurant in Ontario, California
In-N-Out Burger has filed a proposal to replace a former Rite Aid building in Ontario, California with a 3,887-sq-ft restaurant featuring a two-lane drive-thru, pending city approval.
In-N-Out Burger is seeking permission from the Ontario, California Planning Commission to replace an existing 18,175-square-foot commercial structure, formerly occupied by Rite Aid, with a compact 3,887-square-foot restaurant on the southwest corner of Riverside Drive and Archibald Avenue. The design includes a dual-lane drive-thru intended to accommodate the chain’s long queues. Filed in April, the plan remains a proposal and requires commission approval before any timeline can be established.
Local real-estate agent Louis Ramos posted the filing on Instagram, prompting a split response: some commenters fear increased traffic at an already busy intersection, while others argue the venue would serve nearby sports facilities and boost neighboring businesses. The project joins several other In-N-Out expansions across California and the western United States, including sites in Irvine’s Great Park, Commerce, Stockton, Arizona, Utah and Idaho.
Why it matters
The new outlet could alter traffic flow and impact nearby businesses at a busy Ontario intersection.
