Inaugural European Amputee Football Conference League crowns Israeli club champion in Bucharest
The first European Amputee Football Conference League was held in Bucharest, where Israel's Maccabi Haifa FC defeated Scotland's Ayr United 4-0 to win the title.
The European Amputee Football Federation launched its inaugural Conference League in Bucharest, featuring four clubs from Romania, Israel, Scotland and Greece. Matches were staged over two days, with the final on Friday seeing Maccabi Haifa FC beat Ayr United 4-0 to claim the championship. Ben Binyamin of Maccabi Haifa, a survivor of a 2023 leg-amputating attack, expressed how the victory affirmed his recovery and love for the sport.
The competition follows a seven-versus-seven format on a 60-by-40-meter field, using crutches for outfield players and specialized goalkeepers. EAFF describes the league as a historic step toward expanding amputee football across Europe, especially for countries lacking national leagues. Organizers hope the event will draw spectators and foster cross-border club relationships, complementing existing EAFF tournaments such as the Nations League and Champions League.
