Incheon International Airport Leads Global Rankings for International Passengers in H1
Incheon International Airport handled over 38 million international travelers in the first half of the year, topping the worldwide list for passenger traffic.
In the January-June period, Incheon International Airport recorded 38.39 million international passengers, a 6.3 percent increase from the previous year, placing it ahead of London Heathrow's 37.79 million and Singapore Changi's 34.53 million. The figure, supplied by Incheon International Airport Corp and based on Airports Council International's preliminary statistics, marks the first time the airport has led global rankings since its 2001 inauguration.
Historically, Incheon climbed from 10th place in 2002 to 5th in 2018 and 3rd in 2024, reflecting steady growth. Officials attribute the surge partly to shifting demand from Middle Eastern hubs like Dubai, whose transit operations have weakened after the U.S.-Iran conflict. Transfer passengers rose 18.1 percent to 4.24 million, with European-bound transfers jumping 63.2 percent to 210,000, and foreign passenger share reached a record 44.4 percent in Q2.
