Income Tax Department adds portal tool to help taxpayers disclose foreign property holdings
The Income Tax Department has introduced a new feature on its e-filing portal that lets taxpayers view and download foreign asset data received under CRS/FATCA for 2022-2024, and is encouraging disclosures, especially of UAE real-estate.
The Income Tax Department has added a capability to its e-filing portal that lets taxpayers access and download information on foreign assets reported under the Automatic Exchange of Information, specifically CRS and FATCA data for the period 2022-2024. Only data from CRS/FATCA signatory jurisdictions is displayed, as information from other multilateral agreements is withheld because of risk assessments and non-disclosure obligations, though the Department also gathers intelligence from other sources.
At a senior meeting on October 23, 2026, officials resolved to make this information available to relevant taxpayers wherever feasible, enabling them to take advantage of the voluntary disclosure scheme. The Department has already prompted certain taxpayers who own residential or commercial properties in the United Arab Emirates to review their filings. Additional outreach is planned for corporations, educational institutions, professional bodies and industry associations, supported by regional committees under the Principal Chief Commissioner. To date, roughly 1,100 taxpayers have submitted applications, and the scheme will remain open until December 31, 2026.
Why it matters
It gives taxpayers a clear way to comply with foreign asset reporting, reducing risk of penalties and boosting tax transparency.
