India adds silver in long jump and record gold in para sprint at CWG 2026

India enjoyed a productive day at the Commonwealth Games 2026, adding three medals to its haul. Murali Sreeshankar earned his second consecutive silver in the men’s long jump, posting a best of 8.09 metres after briefly leading the competition. Para athlete Dilip Mahadu Gavit set a new Games record of 10.71 seconds to win the men’s 100m T47, while Mohammed Basil Morssinganakathi earned silver with a 10.83-second finish.

Six Indian boxers reached the semifinals, ensuring a minimum of ten boxing medals and raising the country’s overall count to 15 (three gold, nine silver, three bronze), securing eighth place in the standings. Additional highlights included qualifiers for the 400m hurdles final and strong showings in shot put and sprint events, though weightlifting and swimming saw setbacks.
