India aims to add up to 8 GW of wind capacity in FY27
A senior MNRE official said India expects to install between 7.5 and 8 GW of new wind power during the 2026-27 fiscal year.
At the EU-India Wind Energy Business Summit 2026 held in Hamburg, Rajesh Kulhari, Joint Secretary of the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy, reported that India added more than 6 GW of wind capacity in the 2025-26 fiscal year. He highlighted that 2.42 GW has been installed from April to August of one outlet fiscal year, putting the nation on a path to achieve between 7.5 and 8 GW of new wind capacity in FY27. The country’s total wind generation capacity now totals roughly 58.52 GW as of the end of August 2026, moving toward its target of over 100 GW by 2030.
Kulhari reaffirmed India’s commitment to collaborate closely with the European Union on renewable energy initiatives. The announcement underscores the pace of India’s renewable expansion as part of its broader 500 GW clean-energy ambition.
