India and ASEAN Accelerate Pending Chapters in Trade Pact Review Ahead of 2027 Meeting
India and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations agreed to fast-track unfinished sections of the ASEAN-India Trade in Goods Agreement, setting deadlines for progress.
During the 15th meeting of the ASEAN-India Trade in Goods Agreement Joint Committee in Jakarta, India and ASEAN committed to accelerating negotiations on pending chapters of the pact. The joint committee instructed all sub-committees, including those on legal issues, market access and rules of origin, to meet set timelines and enhance cooperation. Delegates from all ten ASEAN members participated, and the session was conducted both in-person and online.
Co-chairs Nitin Kumar Yadav and Mastura Ahmad Mustafa underscored the goal of modernising the trade framework and strengthening economic integration. The next joint committee gathering is scheduled for India in January 2027, where progress will be reviewed and further guidance provided.
