India and China schedule inaugural Corps-Commander talks at Wacha on LAC

India and China will hold their first Corps Commander-level meeting in the eastern sector on September 6 at the Wacha border point.

On September 6, India and China are slated to conduct their first Corps Commander-level dialogue in the eastern sector, convening at the Wacha border meeting point on the Indian side of the Line of Actual Control. The Indian delegation will be led by Lt Gen Girish Kalia, commander of the 3 Corps, one of two corps - the other being the Tezpur-based 4 Corps - responsible for the LAC in Arunachal Pradesh. Officials say the talks are intended to tackle ongoing friction along the frontier.

The Indian Army has taken a resolute posture in response to Chinese troop positions, a stance reinforced after the Galwan crisis in the Eastern Ladakh sector. Earlier, Army Chief Gen Dhiraj Seth visited the 3 Corps headquarters to assess combat readiness and discuss enhancements to mountain-warfare capabilities. The meeting reflects a broader effort to stabilize the contested border and prevent unilateral alterations of the LAC.

Why it matters

The talks mark a new diplomatic channel to manage a volatile border dispute between two nuclear powers.
