India climbs to 26th place in global real estate transparency ranking
India's Tier-1 city property market moved up five spots to 26th in JLL's 2026 Global Real Estate Transparency Index, becoming the top improver in Asia-Pacific.
India's real estate markets in major cities have advanced to 26th position in JLL's 2026 Global Real Estate Transparency Index, a jump of five places and the highest improvement in the Asia-Pacific region. The index scores 88 nations on 260 data-related criteria, and the United Kingdom retained the top spot. JLL attributes India's progress to tighter regulation, the rollout of digital land-registry systems and a more mature REIT sector, with nearly half of Grade-A office space now deemed REIT-eligible.
Private-equity investment reached $10.5 billion in 2025 and rose 25 % in early 2026, supporting a robust market environment. The most notable uplift was in the regulatory and legal category, where India rose to 19th globally. Sustainability rankings also improved modestly, aided by new green-building initiatives, though gaps remain in mandatory climate reporting standards.
