India faces widening trade gap with BRICS partners ahead of summit

India imported $321.8 billion from BRICS nations while exporting only $95.7 billion, creating a $226.1 billion deficit as the country prepares for the 18th BRICS Summit.

A review of trade data shows that India bought far more from the 11-member BRICS bloc than it sold to them, resulting in a large surplus on the import side. Imports totalled $321.8 billion compared with exports of $95.7 billion, leaving a deficit of $226.1 billion. The imbalance will be a key discussion point as New Delhi hosts the upcoming summit, where officials hope to boost intra-bloc commerce and strengthen global value chains.
