India hikes aviation turbine fuel by ₹16/L and raises commercial LPG rates

Aviation turbine fuel prices for domestic airlines rose to ₹137 per litre, up ₹16, while commercial LPG costs increased by ₹62.50 per 19-kg cylinder.

India's state-run oil companies announced a ₹16 per litre increase in aviation turbine fuel, taking the price for domestic carriers to ₹137 per litre from ₹121. The move comes after smaller rises of ₹5 and ₹6.28 per litre in August and September, driven by stronger global benchmarks and currency shifts. At the same time, commercial LPG prices were lifted by ₹62.50 per 19-kg cylinder, following a modest ₹9.50 rise in September after two months of cuts.

These fuel adjustments affect airline operating costs, where ATF can represent up to 40% of expenses, and reflect broader energy market volatility. Household LPG rates stayed at ₹942 per 14.2-kg cylinder, while petrol and diesel prices were unchanged. Prices are revised monthly and can vary by state due to local taxes.

Why it matters

Higher fuel costs raise operating expenses for airlines and commercial users, impacting travel prices and business budgets.
