India holds 131st spot on Global Gender Gap Index as Iceland stays on top

In the newest edition of the Global Gender Gap Index, India kept its 131st position among 145 countries, with only 14 nations ranking lower, such as Kuwait and Morocco. The World Economic Forum noted that global gender parity has reached 69.2%, a 0.4-point increase from the previous year, yet full parity remains a century away. India's economic participation and opportunity score edged up to 41.2%, but it is still 3.5 points below its 2013 high.

Gains were seen in professional and technical employment and in representation of women among legislators and senior managers. Educational attainment stayed near parity at 96.6%, while health and survival improved to 95.6%. Political empowerment was India's strongest sub-index, ranking 67th worldwide, though the overall gender gap in parliament and ministerial posts showed only modest progress.
