India hosts BRICS outreach, inviting ASEAN, Africa, GCC and BIMSTEC leaders
India’s BRICS summit included an outreach session that brought together chairs of ASEAN, the African Union, the Gulf Cooperation Council and BIMSTEC to discuss initiatives for the Global South.
At the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi, India organized an outreach session that convened chairs of ASEAN, the African Union, CELAC, the Gulf Cooperation Council and BIMSTEC. The purpose, explained by Ministry of External Affairs Secretary Sudhakar Dalela, was to showcase BRICS initiatives and ensure that the bloc’s work aligns with the priorities of the Global South. Over two days, participants discussed how BRICS can deliver concrete outcomes in areas such as resilience, innovation, cooperation and sustainability.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi stressed that the trust of Global South countries in BRICS has risen because their perspectives are incorporated into solutions. The outreach aimed to deepen partnerships and foster shared development goals across the invited regions.
