India officially maps 28 strategic Ladakh locations on Survey of India chart

The Government of India, together with Ladakh's Union Territory administration, has added 28 border-area features to the official Survey of India map.

The Government of India, after consulting the Ladakh Union Territory administration, has formally marked twenty-eight strategic locations on the Survey of India’s official map. These sites span high-altitude peaks, mountain passes, glaciers and valleys, including Alisha Giri, Brangsa, Kanishka Peak, Shamal Lungpa and several others. The announcement emphasizes that the mapping exercise will streamline official cartography and enhance public understanding of the contested border region.

By using standard place names, authorities aim to facilitate accurate recognition of these features. The initiative follows heightened tensions after the 2020 Ladakh border standoff between Indian and Chinese forces. Officials indicated that the updated map will support better navigation and strategic planning in the area.
