India's Foreign Minister Rebukes Pakistani Journalist Over Terrorism Question at UN

While addressing the press on the Group of Friends on Safety and Security of Shipping and Seafarers at the United Nations, India’s External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar was confronted by a Pakistani journalist. The reporter asked when India would cease sponsoring terrorism in Pakistan, prompting Jaishankar to retort that a “terrorist country” was asking the question. India’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Harish Parvathaneni, intervened, stating the journalist had received a loud and clear reply.

The exchange occurred alongside Liberia’s foreign minister Sara Beysolow Nyanti, who was also present. This episode came a day after an Indian journalist challenged Pakistan’s prime minister Shehbaz Sharif on the same issue at the UN. The confrontations highlight the heightened diplomatic tension between the two neighbours on accusations of terrorism support.
