India's Munitions India Ltd displays home-grown arms in Prague despite corruption probe
Munitions India Ltd is exhibiting its domestically produced ammunition at the Future Forces show in Prague while a CBI investigation and recent arrests over a ₹500-crore contract cast scrutiny on the firm.
Munitions India Ltd, a leading Indian defence public sector unit, is showcasing a range of indigenous munitions at the Future Forces Exhibition and Forum in Prague from October 21-23, aiming to secure foreign contracts and boost exports. This comes after the Central Bureau of Investigation arrested executive director Anil Kumar, his brother B Harshavardhan and SMPP Ltd CEO Ashish Kansal on suspicion of bribery tied to a ₹500-crore ammunition contract, prompting scrutiny of the company’s governance.
Officials stress that the case concerns the individuals involved and does not automatically implicate the PSU, while the Department of Defence Production closely follows the investigation. SMPP Ltd could face suspension or debarment under defence procurement rules, though it is not yet listed among firms barred. MIL reported a record profit after tax of ₹1,250 crore for 2025-26 and exports of about ₹4,000 crore, supporting India’s goal of ₹50,000 crore in defence exports by 2029-30. The exhibition also includes Yantra India Ltd and Bharat Electronics Ltd presenting their security technologies.
Why it matters
The story shows how India’s defence exporters are pursuing overseas markets while navigating high-profile corruption investigations that could affect future contracts.
