India's smartphone exports to the US hit record $9.4 billion, driven by iPhone surge
India's smartphone shipments to the United States reached a record $9.4 billion, up 26 % year-on-year, as Apple iPhone exports surged.
India's smartphone export value climbed to $13.34 billion in the April-July period, marking a 31 % year-on-year rise, according to official figures. The United States absorbed 70 % of that total, with exports to the market hitting a record $9.4 billion, up 26 % from the prior year. Apple iPhone shipments were the primary driver, outpacing other brands such as Lenovo.
July saw a particularly sharp jump, with US shipments soaring 53.8 % to $2.34 billion, which made up 67 % of India's monthly exports. Analysts expect India to capture more than a quarter of the $100 billion US smartphone market this year, while the Indian Cellular and Electronics Association projects $36-40 billion in exports for FY27. The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology anticipates that 30-35 % of global iPhone production will shift to India by FY31, supported by a new manufacturing incentive scheme worth over Rs 62,500 crore.
Why it matters
The surge shows India's growing role in global smartphone supply chains and its impact on US market dynamics.
