India Says Terror Attack from Pakistan Will Trigger War-Like Response, Says Defence Minister

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh warned that any terror strike originating in Pakistan would be treated as an act of war and met with a proportional response.

At the News18 Defcon 2026 forum, Rajnath Singh stated that India’s new anti-terror policy, outlined in Operation Sindoor, views attacks launched from Pakistani territory as acts of war. He emphasized that India possesses both diplomatic arguments and military strength, and will respond in the language the adversary understands. Singh cited past operations such as the surgical strikes, the Balakot strike and Operation Sindoor as evidence of India’s capability to protect its interests.

Why it matters

It signals a tougher Indian stance that could raise tensions with Pakistan and affect regional security.
