India secures extradition of cocaine kingpin Virender Singh Basoya from UAE
Fugitive drug lord Virender Singh Basoya was extradited from the United Arab Emirates to India, where the NCB will take him into custody.
In a coordinated effort between Indian law-enforcement and Emirati officials, the Narcotics Control Bureau succeeded in extraditing Virender Singh Basoya, the alleged mastermind behind a cocaine syndicate valued at over ₹5,000 crore. A Delhi court had previously issued a non-bailable warrant, prompting red notices and diplomatic channels to secure his return. Union Home minister Amit Shah announced the development on X, emphasizing the administration’s relentless pursuit of drug traffickers abroad.
Basoya was taken into NCB custody upon arrival and will be presented before a specialized court in New Delhi. Investigators intend to question him about international supply chains, financial laundering mechanisms, and local accomplices. Officials said the case demonstrates the effectiveness of a dual “top-to-bottom and bottom-to-top” investigative approach and aims to dismantle remaining parts of the network.
