India signs Rs 810.79 crore deal for 160 indigenously made anti-airfield glide bombs
The Ministry of Defence signed an Rs 810.79 crore contract with Bharat Dynamics Limited for 160 satellite-guided anti-airfield weapons for the Indian Air Force, with deliveries planned for 2027-29.
On Wednesday, India’s Ministry of Defence formalised a Rs 810.79 crore procurement with Bharat Dynamics Limited for 160 Satellite Smart Anti-Airfield Weapons (SAT-SAAW) and related equipment for the Indian Air Force. The deal, witnessed by Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh in New Delhi, is classified under the Buy (Indian-Indigenously Designed, Developed and Manufactured) scheme. SAT-SAAW is a DRDO-developed, satellite-guided glide bomb intended for launch from fighters like the Jaguar, Hawk and Su-30MKI, capable of engaging hardened targets such as runways and bunkers from a stand-off distance of 90-100 km.
The system incorporates roughly 60 % indigenous content, with plans to increase local share in subsystems such as the Initial Measurement Unit and fuse. Its navigation system delivers sub-7-metre accuracy via GPS and sub-3-metre precision when using its seeker. The contract schedules deliveries across the fiscal years 2027-28 and 2028-29, enhancing the IAF’s strike capability while reducing exposure to enemy air-defences.
