India to accept digital boarding passes at immigration starting September 1

From September 1, travelers in India can present electronic boarding passes at immigration counters, eliminating the need for paper tickets.

The Bureau of Immigration announced that, beginning on September 1, passengers flying to or from India will no longer have to hand over a physical boarding card at immigration. Instead, officials will accept the digital version displayed on a device. This shift aims to streamline border processing and aligns with broader moves toward e-passports and paperless travel. The change applies to all international flights handled by Indian immigration checkpoints.

Why it matters

Paperless boarding speeds up immigration checks and supports the move toward fully digital travel documents.
