India to require advanced emergency braking on all new cars from October 2030

The Indian government will make the advanced emergency braking system mandatory on every new car model starting in October 2030, with additional ADAS features required for commercial vehicles.

From October 2030, all newly launched passenger cars in India must be equipped with an advanced emergency braking system, the core component of advanced driver assistance. The rule also obliges taxis and other commercial vehicles to include blind-spot alerts, moving-off warnings, driver-drowsiness detection and lane-departure warnings. Vehicles already in production will need to comply by October 2032. The measures aim to curb road accidents nationwide.

Why it matters

Mandatory safety tech could significantly lower traffic fatalities and injuries in India.
